The Weather Decision Support System II (WDS-II) produces local weather images from high-resolution data that it receives from four satellites operated by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The system is primarily designed and optimized for shipboard use. The data is directly broadcast via High-Resolution Picture Transmission (HRPT), unlike some other shipboard systems that recieve only low-resolution data. In addition to satellite data, WDS-II can receive and display forecast data.
